Ameen

Significance of Ameen

Narrated Abu Huraira(ra):

Allah’s apostle said, “If any one of you says ‘Ameen’ and the angels in the heavens say ‘Ameen’ and the former coincides with the latter, all your past sins will be forgiven.”

The word ‘ameen’ ìs said following a supplication (dua). The supplication or dua is a request to Allah ; it is a specific and concise declaration of what we seek as well as a declaration that we trust entirely in Allah to deliver what we have requested of him. Dua is a recognition of one's total dependence on and trust in Allah and is a form of worship.

Each time that ‘ameen’ is said one acknowledges that:

1. All power and might is only with Allah and only with His will what we request be granted will be granted.

2. One trusts in Allah entirely, including that He will deliver what we have asked for in our supplication.

Necessary action is essential: tying the camel hadith

Hadith abu Dawood(ra)

Make dua to Allah while we still have yaqeen that he will respond.

Our intention becomes a declaration.

With complete trust that one’s dua will be granted the intention of the believer becomes a declaration of action with sincerity.

Dua must be made with sincerity – evidence.

It is vital, therefore, that we understand and are entirely aware of what we have requested of Allah when we say ‘amin’ and that one trusts with confidence that the request will be granted that the dua will be fulfilled.

It is logical that one’s actions should be consistent with this trust in Allah.

Patience should be attained by saying ‘ameen’ at the well, as well as making a declaration to take action.

At times of war Prophet Muhammad said that the non-Muslims were afraid upon hearing this ameen as they knew that this spirit of the soldiers was unbeatable.

Ameen in salat.

Ameen is said after Surah Fatiha is recited. What are we saying ameen to? It is emphasised that we must know and understand and be aware of the words one is saying ameen to:

Surah 1. Al-Fatiha

Ameen is a declaration to take the necessary steps and actions to ensure that Surah Fatiha is present in one’s life. This can only follow one’s ability to self-reflect and to show insight into one's current state.

The essential sign of sincerity is to acknowledge one’s sins, and how one has deviated from sirat-ul mustaqim.

How have we deviated since the previous contemplation of Surah Al-Fatiha?
